The Difference Is the Word

Those who know me would no doubt suggest that the initial entries of this blog are written with uncharacteristic candour. I have to agree, but remain insistent on the need to face up to the calamitous loss of our youth away from the church and the ways of God.

Is Christian schooling the only answer? Does it ensure that young lives will remain on the straight and narrow? Of course not. Every young person is a free moral agent, capable of making choices which flout biblical principles and precepts. That is no reason, however, to abdicate our responsibility to provide the utmost in biblical instruction and counsel to guide young minds and hearts towards the right path—towards a life choice that reflects a radical commitment to Christ.

The difference between Christian and secular school curriculum and practice can be distilled to one factor—the Word of God—the principles of divine truth daily lived out in the lives of teachers and intentionally taught to students at every level. Every Christian school student should be acquainted with the Scriptures and be able to “give a reason for the hope.” (More about that in a later posting.)

The internalization of God’s Word becomes a "built in" protective and corrective influence in a young person’s life. King David’s statement says it well “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!” (Psalm 119:11) This represents the core of every young life that is committed to Christ. Is the Word hidden in the hearts of today's youth? Need I say more?
