The speaker at the gala
advancement dinner of Peoples Christian Academy on June 8 is none other than
Josh McDowell. I don’t think we could have found a more authentic voice to
speak to the issues of truth and spirituality among today’s Christian youth.
I’ve been somewhat acquainted
with McDowell’s writings for most of my adult life. Most Christians readily
connect him with one of the most popular Christian works of the 20th
century, Evidence that Demands a Verdict.
It wasn’t until more recently that I became aware of Josh’s personal
testimony. It can be viewed at www.josh.org. Having
grown up in a dysfunctional family, it wasn’t until he was at university and
was challenged to explore the claims of Christ and the truth of God’s Word for
himself that he saw that Christ is real and that the Bible offers an
explanation and a remedy for mankind’s brokenness.
Here’s what he writes in Right From Wrong, published way back in
1994:
“Our challenge
is to know God for who He is and to fear Him accordingly; to resist the
cultural shift that has rejected God as the determiner of truth, and
acknowledge that He and He alone defines right and wrong; to model before our
families, our churches and our communities a life of dependence upon God; and
to diligently teach our children to fear God and keep His commandments, because
His truth is right and beneficial for all people, for all times, for all
places.”
This
is a message that seems to be gaining in urgency as the years go by. It’s the
message that Josh has consistently given and will be giving at the June 8
event.
